A Historic First for Thai Whisky
Thailand has officially entered the premium single malt whisky arena. Prakaan, the new distillery from International Beverage, began exporting its inaugural expressions (Select Cask, Double Cask, and Peated Malt) to the UK, France, and Germany in June 2025. These releases mark a historic milestone as Thailand’s first single malt whiskies to reach global shelves.
International Beverage Drives Global Rollout
Prakaan is the latest brand from International Beverage, the global arm of Thai Beverage Plc and owner of well-known Scotch labels like Old Pulteney and Balblair. The company is leveraging its established distribution channels to position Prakaan alongside respected global single malts.
Veronica Amago, the company’s Global Sales Director, said the launch represents “a historic day… launching Thailand’s first ever single malt whisky onto the world stage.”

Kamphaeng Phet: Distilling in a Tropical UNESCO Reserve
Prakaan Distillery sits in Kamphaeng Phet, a northern Thai province within the UNESCO-listed Western Forest Complex. The tropical climate (ranging from 20 to 38 °C) promotes rapid ageing, allowing the whiskies to develop mature flavor in just 4–6 years.
Production uses Scottish copper pot stills, spring water from the local reserve, and traditional equipment like wooden washbacks and a classic mash tun.

Introducing The Tribura Series
Named after Kamphaeng Phet’s ancient triple fortifications, The Tribura Series reflects layered complexity across three distinct profiles:
Select Cask – Aged in first-fill bourbon casks. Tasting notes include poached pear, apricot, vanilla, citrus, and coconut. RRP: £65 / US$69.99
Double Cask – Bourbon and sherry oak maturation. Offers richer dried-fruit depth. RRP: £74 / US$89.99
Peated Malt – Uses lightly peated Thai malt (<10 ppm). Expect grilled pineapple, gentle smoke, and clove spice. RRP: £69 / US$79.99
All bottles feature embossed designs inspired by Kamphaeng Phet’s city walls.
Strategic Global Expansion
Prakaan’s rollout is methodical: 2025 sees it in specialist retailers across Europe. The U.S., Singapore, and Japan will follow via travel retail and e-commerce in late 2025, with wider international expansion planned through International Beverage’s network.
Amago emphasizes growing demand for authentic Asian single malts: “There’s strong consumer interest in whisky from new regions that offer genuine provenance.”
Distinct Position in the Asian Whisky Landscape
Prakaan’s launch places Thailand among Asia’s whisky-producing nations like Japan, Taiwan, and India. Its climate-enhanced maturation draws comparisons to Amrut and Kavalan, both known for high-quality, fast-aged whiskies.
The distillery also plans to capitalize on Thailand’s 11 million annual tourists through future tours and onsite experiences. Notably, its Peated Malt already won “Category Winner, No Age Statement Asia” at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards.
What’s Next for Prakaan?
Looking ahead, the distillery is exploring cask-finish editions including rum and Thai teakwood, set for 2026. Talks are underway for a U.S. craft spirits collaboration, and a sustainability report is expected by late 2025.
